cancun recommendations about cancun Dtraveller.com

General
Dress code is casual and fresh, for warm weather. To drink bottled water is always safe and secure. In the Mexican Caribbean we care about the environment, so we kindly recommend biodegradable sun lotion. It is gentle with your skin and with our nature.

To Entry
All persons traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean region are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.

Visitors from other countries must bring effective passport in order to enter Mexico, as well as the visa in case your country citizens need it. For more info on the requirements and procedures to obtain the visa, you must contact the Mexico's consular agency in your city or country. Requirements vary according to the country of origin.

Currency – ATM´s
US currency is widely accepted in Cancun and the rest of the Mexican Caribbean. The prices are expressed regularly both, in Mexican pesos and US dollar (and the most of the restaurants manage as well a bilingual English-Spanish menu). ATMs are practically everywhere.

Electricity
It works the same as in the US: a voltage of 110 AC. An adaptor/converter could be helpful anyway.

Major airlines have direct flights or connections to Cancun, the second most important airport in the country. Domestic flights connect with the rest of the country. Small airplanes take you to Cozumel International Airport, Chetumal Airport, Merida Airport and the small air base in Chichén Itzá.

Ferry
To cross to Isla Mujeres, ferry at Puerto Juárez (Cancun) leaves approximately each hour during day. To cross to Cozumel, ferry at Playa del Carmen leaves almost each hour too. Car ferries are located one in Punta Sam (close to Puerto Juárez to cross to Isla Mujeres) and other two at Puerto Morelos and Calica, to cross to Cozumel.

Car - Bus
Driving in Cancun and in Mexico is on the right. To rent a car you need your valid driver's license from your resident country. Bring it always with you. Drive carefully because there are speed bumps near towns. In case of accident, stay on the road and "Green Angels" (part of the Highway Police) will assist you. Call 01-800-90392 or in Cancun (998) 884-2950. Buses system is very complete and covers every corner of the Mexican Caribbean with bus stations in big cities and stops at almost every single town. Inside Cancun, there’s no better way to move along the Hotel Zone and downtown than the bus. It is cheap, fast and secure.
